How to play Snakes and Ladders
The classic 100-square board game, easy enough for kids and still fun for grown-ups.
What you need
Snakes and Ladders is played on a board of 100 squares numbered 1 to 100, with ladders and snakes connecting some squares. Each player has one token and everyone shares one die. Ludo Dynasty includes a full Snakes & Ladders mode for 2 to 4 players, online or on one phone.
The goal
Be the first player to reach square 100.
How a turn works
- Players take turns rolling the die.
- Move your token forward by the number rolled, following the numbers from 1 upwards.
- Land at the bottom of a ladder? Climb straight up to the square at its top.
- Land on a snake's head? Slide down to the square at its tail.
- Then play passes to the next player.
Finishing on 100
You must land on exactly 100 to win. If your roll would take you past 100, your token stays where it is that turn. The first player to land on 100 wins the game.
Snakes and Ladders vs Ludo
Snakes and Ladders is pure luck: one token, no choices and no capturing, which makes it perfect for young children. Ludo adds strategy: four tokens, captures, safe squares and blockades. Ludo Dynasty has both games in one app.
Why kids love it
- It teaches counting from 1 to 100.
- Anyone can win, because there's no strategy to learn.
- The ups and downs of ladders and snakes make every roll exciting.
